Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot

Good morning my dear, naive friend,

I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.

Why?

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c'mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He's the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it's followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

Regretfully yours,
Lily

The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.

My Review:

The Allure of Dean Harper (The Allure, #2)The Allure of Dean Harper by R.S. Grey
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Lily is a food blogger who has been through school and has been trying to get a career going in the upscale restaurant world. She gets hired and quickly fired by Dean Harper, a very successful restauranteur who also happens to be the best friend of the man Lily's best friend is dating. Dean and Lily both have very strong opinions, and like to be in control. Their personalities clash, but it becomes clear that they are going to need to figure out a way to get along for the sake of their friendships, business partnerships, and because there is no denying that both have a lot of talent. Even though they struggle to get along for any period of time, it is clear that both feel a strong attraction to one another.

Both Lily and Dean are tough characters to really get to know. Both are vey strong-willed and both seem to bring out the worst in the other. I did come to know and care about Lily in the first book in this series (The Allure of Julian Lefray) and even when she was being difficult, it was clear that her hear and professional goals were in the right place. I really wanted success for her professionally, as well as personally. Dean is someone that I also came to like in the first book in the series. Even with my previously good feelings about him, I didn't like the way he acted towards Lily. I get that their personalities clashed, but it was hard to see Dean being a jerk to Lily when it was clear that they both had the kind of talent that could only enhance their success. Their sexual chemistry was pretty intense, and it was pretty obvious that was one area that wouldn't be difficult for either of them. I wanted badly for them to crack their hard outer shells and open up to one another. I have really enjoyed all of the books by this author, and while this wasn't my favorite- I still enjoyed it a lot. I will continue to read more by her in the future.

* This is the second in the series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone (although you should read the first in the series anyway, because it is really good).

* an ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things...everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
