Synopsis
What do you do when being with the man you love is forbidden?
You hide it.
Our relationship is secret, because he is my teacher.
For the next six months I have to pretend he is nothing more.
We sneak around like we are ashamed of how we feel.
We steal kisses or the touch of a hand when nobody is watching.
The problem is, somebody is always watching
And when things go wrong, they have the potential to ruin everything.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Jill and Eli met online under the assumption that Jill was older than she was. Over time they got closer and upon meeting in person realized that they had a strong physical connection. Not long after they discover their connection in real-life it comes out that not only did Jill lie about her age, but Eli is her temporary history teacher. They attempt to stay away from one another after all of this information comes to light, but it is too difficult for both to maintain. They risk a lot by being together, but can't manage to stay apart. Others discovering their relationship would definitely cause problems for both of them.
The sexual connection between these two characters was very hot, but at times I struggled to feel the deeper connection. Both Eli and Jill reference the deep connection they share, but I felt like I was being told that rather than experiencing it myself. There are definitely elements of danger and excitement as the consequences for others discovering this relationship would have consequences for Eli especially that would be devastating. I enjoyed Jill's friendships and support system throughout the story. I definitely felt at times that the taboo of a student/teacher relationship especially one that begins while the student is a minor was minimized. I don't have a problem with an 8 year age gap in general, but I struggled a little with just how different the lives of a 17 and 25 year old would be. I have enjoyed other works by this author in the past and I would read more by her in the future.
