Real by Katy Evans- Review

Real (Real, Raw & Ripped, #1)Real by Katy Evans
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brooke is a former Olympic hopeful turned trainer after her dreams are dashed by a devastating injury that ends her track career. She goes to an underground boxing match where she meets Remington Tate who is a very hot and very fierce fighter. Their attraction to each other is fast and visceral. The next thing Brooke knows, she has been hired to be Remy's trainer for the remainder of the season. Despite their obvious attraction to one another something is holding Remy back from giving in all the way to a relationship with brook. He wants her to know him first, including the dark stuff. And there is definitely some dark stuff.

Whooo!!! There is some seriously hot stuff going on in this book. I'll get my couple of gripes out of the way so I can move on. I work in the mental health field, and I had to decide early on to read some of the bipolar stuff like I would read a paranormal book and just suspend my disbelief to enjoy the story. I also found the frequent use of the writing device where one word sentences are used for emphasis a bit distracting. It was used So. Many. Times.

Now to the good stuff. This book hooked me from the beginning. The sexual tension and heat between Remy and Brooke was scorching! And constant. And awesome. This was one of those where after you start- you don't stop reading until it is done. I also loved the connection Brooke and Remy shared beyond the physical. They are both serious athletes (although Brooke is no longer competing) and they have an appreciation and understanding of one another and they way they live that not many others can share. It was fantastic to experience the incredible tension that built as they slowly moved towards giving in to what they both wanted. It was also wonderful to see them both trying hard to have a relationship despite some pretty serious challenges. Brooke and Remington have very different pasts, but are both who they are today because of the traumas they have experienced. I was cheering them on throughout the entire story and thoroughly enjoyed their intense sexual chemistry. I would gladly read more about any of the characters in this book, and am eagerly awaiting others in this series to be released.
