Off Duty (Off, #7)Off Duty by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tim is a divorced firefighter who has never forgotten his first love, Holly. He is spending some time in New Orleans visiting his sister when his son injures himself and needs to go to the hospital. Holly is an ER doctor who is surprised to see her first love, Tim after ten years and a break up that was forced by her father. Both find that they are still very attracted to one another and realize that they may have a chance to reconnect after all these years and life changes.

I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to connect with both characters and see each side of the story. Holly obviously made a lot of major choices in her life because of the regret she felt following her father's bigoted order. Seeing both of them talk through what happened and reconnect was very sweet and very sexy. They obviously have amazing chemistry and are a great match for one another. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a short story with a lot of heart and heat.

Wanting to ForgetWanting to Forget by Toni Aleo
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Jordie is a professional hockey player trying to forget a woman he has come to care for as he struggles to heal from an injury that is preventing him from playing his sport. He feels that the only way to get this woman out of his mind is to distract himself with others, only it doesn't seem to be working.

I'm not opposed to the premise of this book, but I really didn't connect with Jordie at all. I found his behaviors mostly offensive instead of sexy. I tried to relate to his situation, but still struggled with the way he treated other woman. Again- I didn't have a problem with him using sex as a distraction from his problems, I had a problem with the way he procured it, and the way he acted. I didn't feel much sympathy for him, and didn't find myself feeling one way or another about his romantic success. I haven't read other books in this series, and I'm not sure whether that would have helped me connect with the characters and story more or not.

Rebound (Men of Inked, #4.5)Rebound by Chelle Bliss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sam/Flash has lost the woman he loved for good. After years of holding out hope that she would see him as more than a friend with benefits, it became clear that her heart was claimed by another man. Sam has gone to New Orleans to try and have some fun and clear his mind, but he is finding it difficult until he meets Fiona. Fiona is divorced after being betrayed by her ex-husband and would like to experience some pleasure. Sam and Fiona make plans to explore their sexual attraction to one another, and find that there may be more between them.

I think I liked this book because I know Flash and his history with Izzy from the Men of Inked Series (which I really like). Based on the perspectives in the other books in the series, I didn't really ever care about Sam and found him to be a pretty disposable character. This story helped me connect with him more and understand some of his perspective and also begin to care about him. I did quickly hope that Sam would find some comfort, and found myself cheering both he and Fiona on as they found pleasure in one another as well as a possible future.

Closet ConfessionsCloset Confessions by Kindle Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dr. Derek Babineaux is a talented ER doctor in a busy hospital. He is very attracted to nurse Justin Delacroix who is working at the hospital after recently retiring from the military and is working to transition back into civilian life. Justin is finding it difficult to resist Dr. Babineaux and decides maybe he shouldn't.

I don't want to say too much about the plot of this story because for me, one of the best parts was having different parts of the story revealed to me slowly. At one point I said out loud "wait, I thought..." then shortly after "ohhh...". These characters are easy to connect to and empathize with. They also have amazing chemistry. This story is sexy, and sweet, and I will gladly read more by this author in the future.

Healing TouchHealing Touch by Brenda Rothert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Joss is a doctor in a hospital where her ex-husband also works and "canoodles" often with the woman he cheated on her with. She is over the relationship, but is still struggling with some insecurities. She needs some help on a project of hers from the mechanical department and that is when she meets Carson. Carson is ex-miliatry and has been hurt in the past as well. One night working together leads them to an attraction neither has felt in a long time.

This short story was sexy and sweet. It was each to connect with both characters, and want the best for them. Joss had been humiliated pretty badly by her ex-husband not only cheating, but then flaunting his relationship with the nurse he left her for. It was nice to see her treated well and cared for by someone who didn't even know her well. It was interesting to see her and Carson both drawing each other into conversations neither of them likely have very often. Their chemistry was very hot and I was glad to see them finding a connection they both deserved. I have enjoyed other works by this author and would read more of her books in the future.
