  Excerpt:

“Tell me something,” he murmured as he caressed the sensitive crease of her elbow with a stroke of his thumb, gratified to see the pulse at her neck flutter at his touch and her eyes darken with that same desire he’d witnessed last night. Even her nipples beaded against the pretty pink dress she wore. “Are you more afraid of me or the stalker?” Her gaze turned guarded, contradicting the sugary-sweet smile she gave him. “I’m not afraid of you.” No, not in a threatening sense, but physically he could feel her resistance. Hell, the way she’d bolted on him last night was a clear indicator that the combustible chemistry between them had spooked her. Given this second chance, he planned to take full advantage of their time together and the attraction that hadn’t dissipated one iota. But first, he needed to knock down some of those walls she’d erected between the two of them. “Maybe you should be afraid of me,” he said, giving her a wolfish smile. “Because I’m itching to put you over my knee and spank you for being so insubordinate last night.” Her brows shot up, and then the most beautiful thing happened — that strong, confident woman he’d met last night at the club reappeared right before his eyes. Fire and sass sparked in her gaze, making him hard in a flash. “Oh, I’d like to see you try.” He flat-out grinned, welcoming this more flirtatious side to Raina. He lowered his head closer to hers, so that his mouth was near her ear. “Sweetheart, it would be my greatest pleasure to feel your smooth ass beneath the palm of my hand. But I don’t think that Dean or Mac would appreciate me doing so right here in their conference room. However, if you’d like to wrestle it out later to see who comes out on top, I’m certainly game.” She gaped at him, though there was no misinterpreting the amusement in her gaze. With the awkwardness between them finally dispelled, he released her arm but didn’t step away. “Now let’s get you to work before I change my mind and give everyone in the office a titillating peep show, with your bare ass as the main attraction.”

About Erika Wilde:
Erika WildeErika Wilde (aka Janelle Denison) is the USA Today bestselling author of over 50 contemporary romances for multiple print publishers. So, why the new pen name? As Janelle Denison I’ve always written sexy books, but lately my writing has taken on more erotic elements that I wanted to keep separate for readers because not everyone likes their reading material on the spicier, kinkier side of romance. However, please be assured that even as Erika Wilde, you will still get an emotionally layered story with characters you’ll care about and fall in love with. That is always my goal, whether I’m writing straight contemporary romances, or more erotically charged stories. Currently, I’m working on The Marriage Diaries and making sure that Dean and Jillian enjoy exploring the more erotic side to their marriage. The series will be on-going, with no foreseeable ending as of right now, for as long as readers want to be voyeurs to Dean and Jillian’s sizzling new relationship. I’m also planning a spin-off series in the future, featuring the hot military men that work security for Dean at Noble and Associates.

Q/A with Erika:

How did you come up with the idea for this story? PLAYING WITH TEMPTATION is a spin-off series from The Marriage Diaries. While writing those stories, other characters started appearing on the page, and once I introduced The Players Club, I knew that those secondary characters needed to get their own stories!

Where do you find your inspiration? I find my inspiration in everyday life, watching a TV show where a situation I'm watching turns into an idea, or reading a magazine article that sparks my imagination. Nothing is off limits!

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing? Everything, LOL! Seriously, the more books I write, the harder it gets, probably because I'm always striving to write better, and fresh and new plots and conflicts. Luckily I have a great critique partner who helps me through those challenges.

What are your current projects? I just finished up the 6th volume in my Marriage Diaries series, and I'm now concentrating on The Players Club. I don't write more than one series at a time.

Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work? Well, my first book, published back in 1995, was written as Janelle Denison, and it was a paranormal/angel type story called KISS OF AN ANGEL. Considering that was 20 years ago, I think my writing style has changed dramatically. I also think my writing is tighter, and much sexier, too!

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? The main message is to be who you are, and don't change for anyone. You will find someone who will love you just the way you are.

Trinity Peters has three great loves in her life; books, cake, and mostly cats - her CAT CAFÉ in Nottingham allows her to indulge in all three. Amiable, attractive and ambitious, she knows what she wants in life and sets about making it happen. Everything is going nicely for her until a handsome city slicker, with the suits to match, enters her café by mistake one evening. Nothing would ever be the same for her again.

Blake Lawrence is the well heeled city boy who loves to play big city games. He wouldn't normally venture too far from the bright lights of London, but business interests direct him to the East Midlands. He meets, and is captivated by, the sexy, mad cat woman Trinity Peters.

excerpt

As much as Blake liked seeing his friend Becca, being at her house, her stomach swollen with baby number two, whilst baby number one was still in nappies was not his idea of dinner party bliss. He’d escaped as soon as he could, not missing the look of mischief on his dear friend's face.

He and Becca went way back, she was the only female friend he hadn’t slept with. They’d been at boarding school together in France, or was it Italy? He couldn’t remember, but they’d been friends. He was Godfather to baby number one, Dominick and he did all his Godfatherly duties like be there at the Christening, buying bonds in the little boys name and generally asking how he was once a month. Yes he was a good Godfather.

Too early to go home, well to the flat he used whilst in Nottingham, Blake decided to walk around. It was barely nine o’clock, all the shoppers had gone as Nottingham still operated by the antiquated five o’clock shop closure system that was a pain for busy people like his PA when he needed him to get him something. He always grumbled about the early closing times.

People were heading out to restaurants, no doubt filling up before dancing off the excess of calories he thought, as he walked through Hockley. He could see his building in the distance and knew he only needed to walk for another fifteen minutes and he'd be there.

A group of women dressed in a haze of fluorescent pink and white surged out of a pub and surrounded him like a swarm of angry bees.

"Oi, here’s a nice one," one of them said.

Smiling tightly Blake tried to extricate himself, but two looped their arms through his stopping him.

"She’s getting married next week," one with spiky black hair explained. "See?" She pointed to a blonde wearing a pink tutu and white sash and a gleaming plastic crown.

"Congratulations." Blake murmured, trying to hustle the women along up the narrow lane.

"Would you like to come for a drink? Her last hurrah and all that?" another one asked hopefully, batting her overly long false eyelashes at him.

"No thanks."

"Aww please," spiky black-haired woman pouted up at him. "You're a nice looking bloke, tall and handsome. What colour are your eyes?" she moved in closer to look into his eyes. "Blue or green?"

Blake gritted his teeth. What was it with these northerners and harassment? Sexual harassment worked both ways.

Peeling himself away as firmly as he could he quickly walked around them and into the nearest shop. Then stopped.

He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

There were cats everywhere. He blinked just to see if the curry he’d had for dinner wasn’t playing with his brain cells.

Yes, there were cats of all different sizes all different colours on the other side of the glass wall.

He turned to go, but a girl with a red rose in her hair caught and held his attention.

She’d changed. It was criminal to hide what she’d been hiding in that boxy suit she’d worn earlier at the bank.

Now, as she was bent over a cat, he could see her cute derrière and slender legs in a pair of blue faded jeans. The fabric was worn and faded where it cupped her bottom.

The door opened behind him.

"Go on in please mate, before that hen party change their minds and find me." A man, not much younger than Blake said taking off his shoes.

"Take your shoes off or Trinity will eat you alive," the man advised. "You don’t bring outside dirt near the cats."

"What is this place?" Blake asked, puzzled.

The man grinned.

"The Cat Café, I come here every chance I get," the man explained. "My girlfriend is allergic to cats but I like to come here and chill out and watch some football if I can wrangle the remote off Trinity."

"Cat café?"

"Yes mate," the man stuck his hand out. "I’m Travis,"

"Blake."

They shook hands.

"Take your shoes off and stick 'em in there," Travis advised, pointing to a row of wooden lockers with keys, watching as Blake followed his instruction with obvious reluctance. "Use this."

After placing his shoes in the locker he palmed the key the young man gave him, then following his example Blake put on a pair of disposable socks. Travis then pumped hand sanitiser on his hands and indicated for Blake to follow his example

"Are you ready?" Travis asked, practically bursting with excitement.

"What for exactly?"

Travis grinned, wriggling his pale eyebrow. "To fall in love of course." He pushed open the glass door.

Blake looked at the girl with the red rose in her hair and perfect golden brown skin, he exhaled and went in.

Off Duty (Off, #7)Off Duty by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tim is a divorced firefighter who has never forgotten his first love, Holly. He is spending some time in New Orleans visiting his sister when his son injures himself and needs to go to the hospital. Holly is an ER doctor who is surprised to see her first love, Tim after ten years and a break up that was forced by her father. Both find that they are still very attracted to one another and realize that they may have a chance to reconnect after all these years and life changes.

I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to connect with both characters and see each side of the story. Holly obviously made a lot of major choices in her life because of the regret she felt following her father's bigoted order. Seeing both of them talk through what happened and reconnect was very sweet and very sexy. They obviously have amazing chemistry and are a great match for one another. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a short story with a lot of heart and heat.

Wanting to ForgetWanting to Forget by Toni Aleo
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Jordie is a professional hockey player trying to forget a woman he has come to care for as he struggles to heal from an injury that is preventing him from playing his sport. He feels that the only way to get this woman out of his mind is to distract himself with others, only it doesn't seem to be working.

I'm not opposed to the premise of this book, but I really didn't connect with Jordie at all. I found his behaviors mostly offensive instead of sexy. I tried to relate to his situation, but still struggled with the way he treated other woman. Again- I didn't have a problem with him using sex as a distraction from his problems, I had a problem with the way he procured it, and the way he acted. I didn't feel much sympathy for him, and didn't find myself feeling one way or another about his romantic success. I haven't read other books in this series, and I'm not sure whether that would have helped me connect with the characters and story more or not.

Rebound (Men of Inked, #4.5)Rebound by Chelle Bliss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sam/Flash has lost the woman he loved for good. After years of holding out hope that she would see him as more than a friend with benefits, it became clear that her heart was claimed by another man. Sam has gone to New Orleans to try and have some fun and clear his mind, but he is finding it difficult until he meets Fiona. Fiona is divorced after being betrayed by her ex-husband and would like to experience some pleasure. Sam and Fiona make plans to explore their sexual attraction to one another, and find that there may be more between them.

I think I liked this book because I know Flash and his history with Izzy from the Men of Inked Series (which I really like). Based on the perspectives in the other books in the series, I didn't really ever care about Sam and found him to be a pretty disposable character. This story helped me connect with him more and understand some of his perspective and also begin to care about him. I did quickly hope that Sam would find some comfort, and found myself cheering both he and Fiona on as they found pleasure in one another as well as a possible future.

Closet ConfessionsCloset Confessions by Kindle Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dr. Derek Babineaux is a talented ER doctor in a busy hospital. He is very attracted to nurse Justin Delacroix who is working at the hospital after recently retiring from the military and is working to transition back into civilian life. Justin is finding it difficult to resist Dr. Babineaux and decides maybe he shouldn't.

I don't want to say too much about the plot of this story because for me, one of the best parts was having different parts of the story revealed to me slowly. At one point I said out loud "wait, I thought..." then shortly after "ohhh...". These characters are easy to connect to and empathize with. They also have amazing chemistry. This story is sexy, and sweet, and I will gladly read more by this author in the future.

Healing TouchHealing Touch by Brenda Rothert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Joss is a doctor in a hospital where her ex-husband also works and "canoodles" often with the woman he cheated on her with. She is over the relationship, but is still struggling with some insecurities. She needs some help on a project of hers from the mechanical department and that is when she meets Carson. Carson is ex-miliatry and has been hurt in the past as well. One night working together leads them to an attraction neither has felt in a long time.

This short story was sexy and sweet. It was each to connect with both characters, and want the best for them. Joss had been humiliated pretty badly by her ex-husband not only cheating, but then flaunting his relationship with the nurse he left her for. It was nice to see her treated well and cared for by someone who didn't even know her well. It was interesting to see her and Carson both drawing each other into conversations neither of them likely have very often. Their chemistry was very hot and I was glad to see them finding a connection they both deserved. I have enjoyed other works by this author and would read more of her books in the future.
