Title: Melancholy (Jokers' Wrath MC, #2)
Author: Bella Jewel
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: September 15, 2014
Synopsis
To truly understand a story; you need to start from the beginning, but to start from the beginning; you have to go back, further than just you. After all, our stories don’t start with us, do they? Our stories start with the person before us, and the person before them. We are created from the stories of those people - from their mistakes, from their achievements, from their love and their hate.
No one’s story is ever truly their own.
I tried to create my own story, my own path, and my own actions. I’ve seen things people only see in their worst nightmares, but I never let it beat me down. I never let it become who I was. I picked myself up, and I kept going. Everything was what it was.
There was no point analyzing what it could be.
Could be’s didn’t matter.
Until Maddox came into the picture. He saved my life. He changed my world; giving me the second chance some of us only dream about. There was only one thing missing in my second chance, and she was the reason I fought so hard to survive.
My sister.
My sister who is supposed to be dead, well, at least, that’s what I thought.
That’s what he told me.
Now is where my story changes, but to understand this story, you have to start at the beginning…where it all began…and before.
This story is the second book in a series. You can get the first book on all major retailers. (Precarious - Jokers' Wrath MC Book 1)
This contains no cliffhanger and has a HEA. 18+
My Review:
Melancholy by Bella Jewel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Santana had a pretty horrific childhood. After losing her parents in an accident and then escaping with her sister from an abusive foster father, she does her best to care for her sister on the streets. The help she finds isn't a good kind of help, but it is better than what she has had. At age 16, she nearly dies, and is rescued by Maddox, president of Jokers' Wrath MC. He takes care of her and protects her, but they could not save her sister who Santana believes is dead. After Santana grows into an adult her relationship with Maddox becomes complex. Complicating it further is a secret that Maddox has been carrying around that he fears will take Santana away from him forever.
This book picks up where we are left after Precarious (which I LOVED). we get to see exactly what Santana's life looked like when she was a young teenager trying to survive with her sister after the death of their parents. We also get a whole lot more Maddox and we get to know his adopted brother Mack, who is pretty great. It was tough to watch Santana and Maddox struggle with their feelings for one another. It is abundantly clear that they care very much for one another, but aren't quite positive how to sort through all the new intense feelings they have developed over the years. Santana's jealousy hits her at the end of the first book when she catches Maddox, Krypt, and Ash in a compromising position. She wasn't expecting it and still doesn't really realize what it means. Maddox's feelings are tough to differentiate as is it is unclear whether his control and protective instincts are coming from the place of a care giver, or something else entirely.
There is some serious steam going on here, and as Santana and Maddox start exploring their physical relationship things get very hot. There is also a lot of action and drama as they attempt to find out what really happened to Santana's sister. This book leaves us in a place where this story is wrapped up, but there is a clear direction for the next book. I'm a fan of a good biker book, but I've found that with a lot of books in the MC genre, I really don't like many of the characters aside from the main characters who are often less offensive than the others. So far, I like everyone I've come across in the Jokers' Wrath MC. They are every bit the tough aggressive biker that we come across in other novels, but I find it easier to connect with these characters. I can't wait to continue with this series.
