Among the Echoes by Aly Martinez- Review!

Author: Aly Martinez
Publication Date: August 4, 2014
Genre: Erotic Suspense

Synopsis
My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.
I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.
But he sees me.
Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.
I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me but absolutely unable to let him go.
My name is Riley Peterson…at least for today.

My Review:

Among the EchoesAmong the Echoes by Aly Martinez
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dr. Erica Hill was an emergency room doctor who was put in a situation to witness something that would change her life. She suffered incredibly before being rescued and put into the witness protection program. She has been stripped of her name, appearance, and identity and lives a life of fear with her rescuer who is hiding with her in hopes of protecting her. The threat to their lives repeatedly catches up with them and the life they live is fraught with terror. Slate Andrews is the last person she should interact with as he is a famous boxer and someone with celebrity, fame, and little privacy. The problem is that he is the first person she has met who makes her feel safe and other things... How can she have any relationship when she has to stay hidden, and can't even tell him who she really is?

The things Erica/Riley has been through are really difficult to hear about. It is easy to feel how scared she is all the time and to understand why. I like that through the story, we know a lot, but we don't know everything. I loved finding out new bits of information about the whole situation right up until the end. Dave/Leo is a really complex character and I liked watching him struggle to keep Erica safe while dealing with his own guilt and safety. Knowing that he wants the best possible life for her under terrible circumstances is really touching. Slate is pretty much perfect. He's hot, sexy, and extremely sensitive to the needs of Riley/Erica. He has been through a rough life of his own, but it has made him a good spokesman for the things he and his mother have suffered. He is patient, kind, and fierce all at once. Seeing the two of them struggle to develop and maintain an impossible relationship was both difficult and rewarding. I have enjoyed other books by this author and will continue to look for her work in the future.
