The Intern Serials by Brooke Cumberland- Spotlight Tour with Reviews!

Synopsis

She’s sexy, fierce, and a loud-mouthed know-it-all…and she’s completely off limits.

Cecilia isn’t your typical college student. Hell, she isn’t a college student at all, but that doesn’t stop her from applying for one of the biggest and prestigious enterprises in the Midwest.

She wants it. She takes it.
She doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to finding out the truth.

When Bentley Leighton, soon-to-be CEO of Leighton Enterprises, meets “Ceci,” he’s instantly impressed. He doesn’t have time to train a new intern. However, when he sees her that first day, his intentions begin to change.

He’s the boss. She’s the intern.
Nothing can happen. It’s against the company rules.

Then again, some rules were made to be broken.

What starts as innocent flirting becomes raveled up into so much more—secrets, lies, deceit.

My Review:
The Intern, Volume 1 (The Intern, #1)The Intern, Volume 1 by Brooke Cumberland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cecilia is an 18 year old who used her older sister's college ID and her own smarts to land a pretty impressive internship. She has important reasons for wanting access to information Leighton Enterprises has, and the skills she can gain. Bentley Leighton, future CEO of Leighton Enterprises is irritated at having to train a new intern. This irritation turns to a challenge of a different sort when he meets the smart and feisty Ceci. They both fight the pull of their attraction to one another since the boss/intern dynamic makes things tricky and neither are looking for any sort of relationship.

There are intriguing bits all throughout this installment of this serial. We come to learn about Ceci's motivation, but there is a lot of mystery surrounding her father's death and so far no one has been able to put all the pieces together. Bentley is losing his battle against the pull of his attraction to Ceci and even though he has given in to the physical attraction, he is starting to want to give her a whole lot more. Ceci is on her way to falling too far for Bentley too and it will be a challenge to maintain her focus on her own goals while maintaining the facade she has created. Since this is a serial, we are left in a place where it is nearly impossible not to seek out the next installment immediately.

Synopsis

My cock noticed her before I did.
She came out of nowhere.
Completely unexpected.

And I let her in…unwillingly.
But she gave me no choice.
She sledgehammered my thick walls, leaving me charmed by her knowledge, and seduced by her beauty.

I was captivated.

And now…it was about to tumble down in a tsunami of lies.
Uncertainty riveted my core as my anger spread…she was impossible to forget.
After all, she was still my intern.

Forbidden.
Lust.
Betrayal.

I felt all of those things for her at once. But only one would destroy us.

My Review:
The Intern, Volume 2 (The Intern, #2)The Intern, Volume 2 by Brooke Cumberland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This installment picks up right where the first serial leaves us. Bentley knows Ceci was not being completely honest with him, but he isn't sure exactly how or why. As they spend more time together it is clear that they are both falling hard for each other. We learn a little more about how Bentley was burned in the past, and so does Ceci. This makes it hard for her to see how any of this is going to work out. Even though she has no intention of hurting Bentley, she knows that there is no way he will be able to forgive her lies, especially since he has been hurt so badly by lies in the past.

The chemistry between Bentley and Ceci remains very intense and very sexy. Ceci is putting together a couple more pieces of the puzzle that is her father's death. There was a lot of tension in this installment for me because it is clear that things can't stay the way they are forever, and I was just waiting for one of the pieces of the delicate structure of Ceci and Bentley's situation to break and cause the whole thing to fall apart. We are left again with a bomb as this installment ends. Immediately on to the next...

Synopsis
I should’ve known.
I should’ve listened to my gut.
But I didn’t.
I listened with the wrong head.
And where did it get me?

Secrets.
Lies.
Deceit.

She embodied them all.
Deceived her way into my company.
Lied about who she was.
Kept secrets from me after convincing me I could trust her.

Those walls she tore down are back up in full force.

Cold.
Angry.
Unforgiving.

She was no longer my intern.
She was no longer mine.

My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

All of Ceci's deceptions have been exposed. Bentley is devastated and feels that he can't trust himself. The second time he has allowed someone into his life he was betrayed yet again. Ceci tries to explain, but knows that no matter what she says, the reality is that she lied to Bentley in order to gain information that she needed. They attempt to live their separate lives, but find that they are both miserable. They go for a couple years living half-lives, and when a chance meeting brings them back together, they aren't sure whether it is too late.

Lots of angst in this one. The tricky thing is that it is easy to understand where both of them are coming from. Both Bentley and Ceci have been through some horrible situations, and while both have reasons for their behavior that are understandable, it is hard to see them continuing to hurt themselves and each other because there isn't a clear way through. I really enjoyed this installment. While things are pretty much wrapped up in this one, it looks like we might get a little more of something in the future. I will stay tuned...
