Wait for You by J.Lynn- Review

Wait for You (Wait for You, #1)Wait for You by J. Lynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Avery Morgansten has left her family and gone to college far away. She is doing it on her own dime, and is leaving behind a past that has been torturing her for the past 5 years. She feels like she should finally be free of everything that has been holding her back. When Avery meets hot and cocky Cameron Hamilton, she struggles to keep her secrets in place and her protective walls up. Parts of her past begin to pop up in her life now and she begins to realize that running away from her problems doesn't make them go away.

I really liked Avery, even though it was clear she had a whole lot to work through and wasn't always making choices that were helpful to her. She is smart and strong and it was wonderful to watch her develop new friendships, realize who she is and what she wants, and make her life her own. Her friends were a hoot! I love how they were snarky and a little crazy, but at the base of everything was a deep affection for one another.

Cam was just ridiculous. Ridiculously hot, and ridiculously perfect. He's got a touch of cockiness and arrogance, and has obviously been quite popular for most of his life. I loved that even with all that, he was kind to everyone, and didn't ever use that popularity to any negative end. His patience and care with Avery was so touching. Watching Cam's flirting and friendship slowly start to break down some of Avery's walls was a pretty great ride. There was definitely a slow burn going on, and it made everything that much hotter when they finally started moving forward in their relationship.

There were some pretty tough topics covered in here, and I think the author did a good job of covering some of the different emotions, angles, and ways that people can be hurt and hurt again by these things. Avery and Cam have amazing chemistry and they are completely charming together. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the new adult genre with some emotionally charged aspects, and an exquisite build up of sexual tension between the main characters.

The Dream Thieves (the Raven Cycle #2) by Maggie Stiefvater- 5 stars!!!

The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2)The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Dream Thieves picks up right where The Raven Boys leaves us. The ley line has been woken by Adam, who is struggling to understand what this means for himself personally as well as everyone else. Ronan can take things from his dreams and is starting to learn what the full weight of that ability entails. Gansey is himself, but the people and relationships around him are changing and he is struggling to keep his friends and his search for Glendower intact. Blue is experiencing a lot of different feelings and is struggling with her own secrets. She continues to fight falling in love, while periodically trying to assess whether she is in love. The more things change, the more she understands what she has to lose. Noah is struggling with his presence as the surges in energy are making it impossible for him to remain "alive".

I've said this about other books by Maggie Stiefvater, but it bears repeating- her words have weight. They create moods and cause feelings. She is capable of creating understanding with words alone in situations that the reader has likely never experienced or imagined. Everything is vivid, and each word is important.

Each character in this story is so unique (in general and they are different from one another), and it is easy for the reader to get a sense of who each character believes themselves to be, as well as how they are perceived by others. In this book we get to experience aspects of the story from nearly every character's perspective, and are introduced to a couple of new characters that make fantastic additions to this already amazing and eclectic cast. We also get to see a little deeper into Blue's home and family, and spend more time with that incredible group of women. Ronan's family secrets are revealed, and it makes him and his family even more complex and interesting.

It made me a little anxious to see everyone's relationships changing and evolving, and watch how the mysteries of the ley line and Greywarren are causing all sorts of general and personal upheavals for the entire group. There was definitely more tension with Blue's kissing policy (and prophesy) conflicting with the new feelings arising in her that are becoming ever more intense and making it harder and harder to resist. It seems like with every new experience and each bit of information, a whole mess of new mysteries and conflict arise.

There is a lot of serious adventure and danger in this book and we are still left waiting to see how some of the predictions we have heard since the beginning of The Raven Cycle are going to play out. I can't wait to find out where the next book will lead. But I suppose I'll have to.

Worthy of Redemption by L.D. Davis- Review

Worthy of Redemption (Accidentally on Purpose, #2)After his devastating actions in Accidentally On Purpose, Kyle Sterling is trying to move on. He has lost the love of his life and he does not believe he is worthy of ever being loved again.

Lily Whitman has been devastated by the ultimate betrayal and later tragedy hits her heart full force. She doubts she will ever be able to give her heart to anyone again. She hides her own demons behind a wall of colorful hair, piercings, tattoos and a style and attitude that is all her own.

Kyle and Lily find themselves thrown together when Lily takes a position at Sterling Corporation after her place of employment burned to the ground. Lily is the complete opposite of the type of woman that Kyle has ever had any interest in. Lily is rough around the edges and challenges Kyle at every step. Despite his dick-like disposition and violent past, Lily fights to prove to Kyle that he is worthy – of being loved, and worthy of redemption, but Kyle is afraid of repeating history and he can’t let go of his past…And maybe a very important someone from his past isn’t ready to let go yet either….

My Review:
Worthy of Redemption by L.D. Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kyle Sterling wakes up in rehab and starts to put together the way things ended with Emmy. He has been through total chaos personally and professionally. Lilly is trying to make ends meet after her job and future is burned down along with Emmy's bar, which she was running. She's had serious challenges of her own in life, and is doing her best to take care of herself and those she cares about. Lilly ends up working as Kyle's assistant, and even though Kyle is still mostly a total pain, they have a strong growing attraction to one another that is getting hard to ignore. Kyle doesn't feel that he is worthy of love or a safe person to be around after the things that happened with Emmy while he was using drugs. Lilly is hoping to help him understand that even he is worthy of redemption and deserving of love.

Who was team Kyle after reading Accidentally on Purpose? I'm guessing no one. I certainly never expected that I would want to read a whole book about someone I considered to be an abusive mess of a person. I also never expected to come to care about Kyle and wish good things for him. What a complex character he turned out to be. While the impact and seriousness of his past actions (under the influence or not) is not excused or minimized- we do come to get a much fuller picture of Kyle and the life he has had and is working towards now.

Lilly is also a great character. She is unique, smart, bold, and vulnerable. It was a rough journey learning what her life had been like up until now, but it was rewarding to see her working through not only her financial struggles, but the relationships in her life. She was someone I was rooting for the whole way. Her chemistry with Kyle was amazing and the sexy stuff was plenty steamy.

I also loved that we got to spend a little time with Emmy and Luke and not just in passing, but in a pretty significant way. We get to watch them experience and work through some tough stuff, but it really helps us know them as a couple and see what their life together is becoming. It was nice to see some resolution in Kyle and Emmy's relationship for both their sakes as well.

If you've read Accidentally on Purpose- you really need to read Worthy of Redemption. If you haven't read Accidentally on Purpose, go read that then read Worthy of Redemption. I've really enjoyed my time with these characters.

Marley Mason is dreading the arrival of the new business consultant. After all, this man will most likely outsource her job to China. The last thing she would expect is a case of mistaken identity, leading to false accusations of kidnapping when she attempts to pick up the wrong man at the airport, or worse…that she would have such a visceral reaction to the right man.

Rick Randy is super sexy, scandalously flirty, and perfect masturbation material, but a relationship is out of the question. Rick is contracted on a temporary basis to fix Marley’s ailing company, and then pull out, although as he expresses to Marley, pulling out is difficult for him, in more ways than one! Marley’s feelings range from utter confusion to intense contemplation as Rick charms his way into her life. All of those C-words Marley can control, but it’s the other C-word she fears—commitment.

Review- 5  stars!
The Other C-WordThe Other C-Word by M.K. Schiller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Marley Mason is sent to pick up a consultant from the airport who was hired to help the company she works for become more efficient. She does not expect to have such an intense attraction to him, or to find herself working with him over the next few months. Rick Randy is charming and smart to go along with his incredible good looks. Their attraction to one another has them considering things neither would have in the past.

Truth be told, I didn't expect to love this book. Between the cover and description of the book, I was pretty sure I knew what to expect and that it would be predictable and fine, but not great. What a fantastic surprise this turned out to be. Despite the initially predictable story line, the characters in this book were unique and entertaining and there were a lot of elements of the story that I didn't expect.

Marley is someone who has had some things happen in her past that have caused her to lead an unconventional life in the present. She has some rules about relationships and a living situation that as readers, we don't quite understand fully until later in the book. Rick is pretty close to perfect. He has some alpha tendencies, but they never cross the line to controlling. He's also sexy, funny, smart, and tries hard to do the right thing nearly always.

The sexual tension and build up before their relationship turns physical was exquisite! Their attraction to one another was instant, but it took a good long angsty while before they gave in to what they both wanted. That build up provided a much more authentic feel to everything. Of course, everything was complicated just like they both knew it would be before they started, but it was still wonderful to experience them growing and changing together the more time they spent with one another. Plus the sex is super hot.

Marley's family and best friend Dillon provided a wonderful cast of supporting characters. They were unconventional, loving, supportive, and funny. They made several aspects of this story even better. I really loved seeing what becoming connected to Marley's family gave to Rick as well.

There are a lot of emotions flying around this book- both high and low. There are some tough scenes and things are are difficult to experience along with Marley. However, throughout everything there is humor, and wit at a level that is not all that common. I laughed out loud 3 times while reading this. There is a lot that I find funny, but it takes a little something extra to get me cracking up uncontrollably in front of others as I'm reading. I'm glad I read this and I would definitely recommend this to fans of Alice Clayton, Tara Sivec, or really anyone who likes books in this genre.

Exerpt:

A million things happened to my body at once. My pulse quickened, my heart thumped wildly, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and the area between my legs felt slippery. Cunnilingus? Not the sexiest word, but when it rolled off his soft, sumptuous lips, I felt like I could orgasm right there. He helped me into the elevator—he had to. We went to the opposite ends of the elevator car. We had to.
Then the annoying thing happened where we heard multiple shouts of, “Hold the door.”
Damn! Doesn’t anyone know common elevator etiquette?
I wanted to hit the door-close button, but Rick, the consummate gentleman, held the doors open. About twenty people piled on, separating Rick and I further. How was there this many people in the elevator? Crap, I hoped they couldn’t sense what a hot, damp mess I was. It was so freaking embarrassing, and I silently cursed Rick for turning me on so much with a simple word. Not even a smutty word, but a scientifically correct word. How did he do that? If I said fellatio, would it turn him on?
Kathy was among the passengers, and it was obvious she wanted to stand as close to Rick as possible.
“Where are you off to?” Kathy asked him. It was hard to see among the pile of people, but I leaned my head back, and could just make out Kathy caressing Rick’s arm through the myriad of elbows and shoulders that separated us.
“Lunch,” he replied good-naturedly, moving his arm from her grasp. Man, he was so much better at this than I was. Of course, I wasn’t able to whisper anything scandalous in his ear.
“But it’s only ten-thirty,” Kathy said.
“Oh, I was going to run a few errands, but I could go for some brunch myself. I’d love to join you.”
“No!” I hadn’t meant to say it aloud, but I did. I didn’t quite yell it, but the pleading whimper in my voice was unmistakable. People shifted in front of me and Kathy shot me an annoyed look.
“I didn’t see you there, Marley,” she said, although I knew she had.
Rick took charge of the conversation quickly. “Kathy, Marley and I are doing a working lunch. We have some…results to go over.” It amazed me how professional he sounded.
“Oh, on the website beta testing?” Kathy asked.
“Yes, on that,” Rick replied.
The elevator let us off and I breathed a sigh of relief to be in an open space again. Kathy wasn’t done though. She stopped in front of Rick, smiling broadly, flipping her dark hair. “Well, if three’s not a crowd then like I said, I would love to join you. I have some ideas of my own.”
Oh crap! I almost laughed at the absurdity of her statement, but I restrained myself, leaning against the wall outside the elevator for support, not daring to speak again.
Rick smiled brightly and took Kathy’s hand. He took her hand! “Kathy, I would love to hear your ideas, but right now, I really need a one-on-one with Marley. I need to give her all my input, no matter how long it takes. I need her to take all the data I can possibly give her so she can…come…up with the finished reports.” His loaded pause between the word ‘come’ was not lost on me. “It will be boring for you to just watch us. I mean, there’s nothing you can do for me, right now. I’m in desperate need of Marley’s assistance with this.” His words gushed with sexual suggestion and he knew it…so did I.

Author Bio – MK Schiller
This is my debut novel, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.  I describe myself as a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. By day, I don a magic cape, calculator (sometimes an abacus), and an assortment of gel pens for my work in the world of finance. But by night, I sit by the warm glow of my computer monitor, and think of stories that will warm the heart, and cheer the soul.
There is nothing better than the intimate journey and ultimate satisfaction that only a swoon-worthy romance can provide, especially if there are a few laughs along the way.  Although writing is my passion, I am a reader first and enjoy nothing more than curling up with a good book and some tasty Italian (the food, of course!). I hope you will enjoy my work and please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.

Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis- Review

Accidentally on Purpose (Accidentally on Purpose, #1)

Review
Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emmy works for a controlling jerk named Kyle. A run-in outside of work at a bar followed by a weekend of being snowed in together cause them to give in (repeatedly) to the physical relationship they can't seem to deny. In addition to being Emmy's boss, he has a serious girlfriend who he is not willing/able to break up with. Emmy begins a relationship with a wonderful man named Luke, but can't seem to stop sleeping with Kyle. As one might expect, things become very complicated.

What a nice surprise this book was. It started out and I was pretty sure I was dealing with another character in a book who we (the reader) are supposed to like just because he has hot sex with the female lead even though he is a total asshole. I was very glad when the book went in different directions than I was expecting. I like that things got messy, and the characters had to find their way through some serious conflict.

Emmy has a variety of issues, some that she is willing to deal with, others she isn't. It is an emotional experience to follow her as she decides what she wants and needs and how she is going to manage everything from work, to her love life, to her relationship with her mother. She is imperfect, and made a lot of decisions I didn't like, but that never took me out of the story, and I was always hoping that things would work out for her. She is witty, strong, imperfect, and she felt real. I also liked that there were things revealed to the reader about Emmy throughout the story that were unknown to us even as we followed her through the story.

Kyle is a tough character to like. I thought the author did a good job of making him complex enough that some of Emmy's confusion and conflict was understandable. Luke is just fantastic. I felt like I, along with Emmy, underestimated him and slowly getting to know more and more about who he really is was wonderful.

This book had complex characters, challenging situations, and was a pretty emotional ride. I would recommend this and I look forward to reading more by this author.
