Synopsis
In Hardpressed, the highly anticipated second book of the Hacker Series that began with Hardwired, Blake and Erica face threats that put both their love and their lives on the line. Despite Blake Landon’s controlling ways, the young and wealthy hacker finally won the trust of the woman he loves. Internet entrepreneur Erica Hathaway broke down the walls that kept her from opening her heart and her business to Blake. Ready to start this new chapter in her life, Erica is determined not to let anything come between them, even if that means giving Blake back some of the control he craves in and out of the bedroom. But when demons from her past threaten their future, Erica makes a decision that could change their lives forever. My Review of Hardpressed (The Hacker Series #2):
Hardpressed by Meredith Wild
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Hardpressed picks up right where Hardwired leaves us. Blake and Erica are in love and are trying to move forward with their relationship. Parts of Blake's past begin to threaten Erica's company, and soon Erica is experiencing threats of her own that come from a source I never anticipated. Their relationship is put to the test and their lives are put in danger.
The sexual chemistry between Erica and Blake is as hot as ever. It is obvious how in love with one another they are, so when the challenges of their past come back to threaten them it is tough to experience. Watching Erica struggle to try and keep everything and everyone she cares about safe while the most important parts of her life are falling apart is difficult. The author does a good job of keeping the reader engaged and guessing what is going to happen and whether there is a way out of some of the challenges the characters face. Blake remains completely sexy and intriguing, and it is really hard to watch him struggle when he doesn't understand why any of these things are happening in his relationship with Erica. It was also hard to see Blake and Erica hurting one another when they were apart. There were times when I wanted to yell at both of them when I was feeling frustrated at their misery as they dealt with the situations at hand.
While certain aspects of this story are predictable, there is a lot that keeps the reader engaged and guessing about what will happen next. There were some things that took me by surprise, and I love it when a book does that. I also like getting to see how things are going with Alli and Heath and where their lives are headed. I am curious to see what we will learn in the next series, and will eagerly be anticipating its release.

My Review of Hardwired (Hacker Series #1):
Hardwired by Meredith WildMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Erica Hathaway is a recent Harvard graduate who is trying to make a go of a business she started while in school. She encounters rumored hacker and software billionaire Blake Landon as she is making a presentation seeking investors to grow her company. Despite Erica's efforts to keep her interaction with Blake strictly professional, she finds herself drawn to him in a way she hasn't been to any other man. She also learns that Blake will not stop pursing something he really wants.
Erica lost her mom at a young age and was sent away to boarding school having no other relatives. She found a support system in her mother's best friend and Allie, who helped her start her company, but for most of her life has been completely responsible for taking care of herself. Blake and Erica have some pretty incredible chemistry and the sexy stuff in this book is beyond hot. Despite their intense attraction to one another, they face a series of issues as they try to have a relationship. Blake and Erica are both used to being in charge of everything in their lives, so there are some clashes as Blake struggles to want to control and protect Erica, and Erica wants to maintain complete control over her own life. Each of them have some traumas and ghosts in their past that start to re-surface and bring challenges into their lives and relationships.
This book is definitely has some similar themes and situations to the FSOG, Crossfire series, and others in the independent girl tames controlling hot billionaire series. But, that said, I still enjoyed the unique aspects of Erica and her situation and Blake. They were enjoyable characters to spend time with and I will definitely be reading the next books in this series.
