BIOGRAPHY/MEMOIR 2014 AUDIE AWARD WINNER
The Elephant Whisperer
By Lawrence Anthony with Graham Spence
Read by Simon Vance
Tantor Media
Description:When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of 'rogue' elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in South Africa, his commonsense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival - notorious escape artists, they would all be killed if Lawrence wouldn't take them. He agreed, but before arrangements for the move could be completed the animals broke out again and the matriarch and her baby were shot. The remaining elephants were traumatised, dangerous, and very angry. As soon as they arrived at Thula Thula they started planning their escape...As Lawrence battled to create a bond with the elephants and save them from execution, he came to realise that they had a lot to teach him about life, loyalty and freedom. Set against the background of life on the reserve, with unforgettable characters and exotic wildlife, this is a delightful book that will appeal to animal lovers everywhere.
*Personal Note from me - I have not yet listened to this audiobook, but I do know that Simon Vance (the narrator) has narrated some of my absolute favorite audiobooks. He is brilliant, and I would trust him to make the experience of an already great book even better through his narration.
All you have to do to be entered to win this audiobook is leave a comment either here on this post, or on my twitter feed: @bibliophile333 and tell me the name of an audiobook you have loved, or a book you would like to hear performed as an audiobook.
The Winner will be chosen on June 30th, so you have until then to comment and be entered to win!
Tomorrow be sure to visit Hot Listens as they will be giving away the winning title in the Erotica category.

Of course I had to select a Simon Vance narration....how about Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice.
ReplyDeleteGood call on Interview with a Vampire. Great book and great narration!
ReplyDeleteSo many favorites! Impossible to pick just one, of course. However, since Simon Jones is another Simon who absolutely ROCKS as a narrator, and I love Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus books, I'll toss in "The Amulet of Samarkand," Book 1 of that series. (P.S. I hope I win "The Elephant Whisperer"! Or is it already too late?!)

DeleteNot too late, you are entered to win! And I'm definitely willing to give additional Simons a chance at being my favorite narrator :)
DeleteBilly Crystal, "Still Fool'em" love it!
ReplyDeleteHe can do no wrong. Especially if he's narrating his own work!
DeleteThere's so many! But I have to say that it was The Hunger Games that got me hooked on audiobooks.
ReplyDeleteI loved the books when I read them, but haven't yet listened to them. Good to know that the audiobooks are good enough to hook ya as well!
DeleteI really liked Ready Player One, read by Wil Wheaton!

DeleteI LOVED Ready Player One. It tickled all my nerd bits in just the right places!
DeleteWe enjoyed the Da Vinci Code, and Angels and Demons on audiobook.
ReplyDeleteI loved these audiobooks as well. They were the perfect stories to make a long road trip exciting.
DeleteI really am enjoying And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. He reads his own books and I think he does a great job.
ReplyDeleteI love it when authors narrate their own work! I've read and enjoyed other books by this author, so maybe I'll listen to this one instead of read it.
Deletethanks for the chance to win, I'm seeing/reading a lot about the Billy Crystal audio book, I think I'm going to purchase it even though I don't know much about him
ReplyDeleteI haven't listened to this yet, but I'm thinking it is a safe bet. He's hilarious and I'm guessing he does a great job narrating his own book.
DeleteSo many! It's hard to choose just one! I'll go with His Forbidden Touch by Shelly Thacker. It is an historical romance, beautifully written and narrated.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the forbidden. And touching! This sounds like a good one :)
